Whitehaven have announced the signing of a third player from the National Conference League club Kells.
Mason Lewthwaite, who celebrated his 24th birthday on Thursday, follows Clarke Chambers and Carl Garner to the Ortus Rec as Haven reset for life in League One.
A strong-running forward, Lewthwaite scored three tries in 12 appearances for Kells last term and also has experience in the local rugby union scene playing several seasons with Penrith RUFC.
Lewthwaite also has international experience having previously represented England Community Lions Under 23s in 2021 and 2022 against Ireland and Wales respectively.
He is now looking forward to joining the pro ranks alongside his Kells team-mates Chambers and Garner.
Head coach Anthony Murray said: “I am so pleased Mason has decided to join us and commit to his first professional contract with his home town club.
“Mason will give us some versatility with him being able to play in the back row and centre and I’m looking forward to working with him and watching how he develops.
“He will bring a real enthusiasm and energy to the team and another local player for our faithful to get behind.”
Once again the club has given extended thanks to the Kells club for their support and backing of Mason to make the step up to the professional game.
