Whitehaven have landed another player from the National Conference League as they continue to build for next season in League One.

Latest to join the squad at the Ortus Rec is the Hensingham utility back Jay Weatherill, a former Wath Brow finisher in the top-flight of the NCL.

The 25-year-old Weatherill enjoyed a prolific season in Kris Coward’s side which gained promotion from Division Three of the NCL following his close-season move from Wath Brow. He scored 14 tries and kicked 41 goals in 15 appearances to be nominated Division Three Player of the year.

He has previously been the top try scorer in NCL Premoier Division for the Hornets while also a talented footballer he has previously been top scorer in the NW Counties League Division One North for Cleator Moor Celtic.

Weatherill has also represented England Community Lions at the Under 23 level alongside fellow recent signing Mason Lewthwaite. He scored a hat-trick from the bench in a 56-0 victory over Wales Dragonhearts in November 2022.

After the signing head coach Anthony Murray said: “I’m delighted Jay has decided to join us after a really successful season with his community club Henisingham.

“Jay played a massive part this season in the promotion push and gained some personal reward for that being nominated for the NCL Division Three player of the year.

“Jay is a proven try scorer having played at various levels of the community game and i am really excited to see him do that in front of the faithful at Haven.”
