Whitehaven have spread their net outside the county again to recruit their latest member of the 2025 League One squad.
They have announced the signing of utility back Kieran Tyrer, 22, a former member of the Wigan academy who has subsequently played for Oldham as well loan spells at Widnes, London, Workington and West Wales.
Whitehaven head coach Anthony Murray said: “In Kieran’s early career he has been at Wigan for the duration and obviously being at Wigan you are in some fantastic systems and as player you are well coached.
“Kieran has had some experience playing at Oldham and went out on loan to Widnes.
“I know he is now wanting the opportunity to make the half back spot his own and have the responsibilities of taking the team around the field.
“Kieran has all the skills and has the right attitude to take this opportunity and make the half back spot his own and fully establish himself in League One and further.
“I can’t wait to work with Kieran as he comes from a family of rugby league players and I’m certain he will make his own mark in the game.”
He is the son of Sean and grandson of the great Colin Tyrer.
Leigh-born, he started out at local club Leigh Miners Rangers and joined Wigan’s youth set-up from Widnes Vikings, where he initially earned a scholarship.
