The Sunday County Cup dominated the fixture list in both east and west of the county – and there were some big scores.
Last season’s finalists Parkside and Northside both had 11-1 victories to make progress in the competition.
Holders Parkside have had problems early on this season but seem to be coming back into form to make a strong defence of the trophy they won last season.
They beat the Sun 11-1 with goals from Sam Stones (3), Jay Weatherill (2), Ben McCarron (2), Ryan Hall (2) and Ryan Maguire (2). Dylan Penn scored the Sun’s consolation.
The Swan were on the receiving end of Northside’s 11-goal blast with their consolation coming from Reece Alderson.
The Northside goals came from Max Litt (4), Kyle Davis (2), Chad Grisedale (2), Tyler Harrel, Harry Watson and Josh Hoggarth.
Two of the sides doing well in the Premier Division, challenging Northside for the title, are out of the County Cup.
Dearham and Moresby Rangers were level 2-2 after 90 minutes but it was the Copeland side who emerged 5-3 winners after extra time.
Ellis Trotter helped himself to a hat-trick for the Rangers while Luke Williams and Owen O’Neil also found the back of the Dearham net.
Callum Foy, Jack Kemp and James Langstaff were on target for Dearham.
In a remarkable game at Lowca the Pirates beat Deer Orchard 8-6 – and it didn’t go to extra time!
With 10 minutes to go Lowca led 8-2, taking their chances well throughout the game, and a stirring late rally by the Orchard just saw them pull up short.
Travis Fyfe (4), Owen Woodburn (2), Aaron Wynd and Callum Wilson netted for Lowca with Luke Graham (4), Robbie Furness and Jayden Fulton responding for Orchard.
Bluebell were also among the goals, berating Senhouse Street 9-1. Carl Denver (3), Matthew Perry (2), Luke Knowles (2), Grant Quayle and James Graham were their scorers. Terry Wharrier scored for Senhouse.
Certainly the goals flew in just about everywhere on Sunday because there were ten scored in the clash between Borough Miners and Whitehaven Development.
The Development side came out on top 7-3 with Jay Connor (4), Joe Carney (2) and Jenson Irving scoring the goals.
Michael Wood (2) and Jay Richardson were on target for Borough Miners.
No let up, too, in the game between Royal Oak and King’s Arms which finished 6-1 to the Egremont visitors.
Kieran Fraser was the day’s other hat-trick hero for King’s Arms with the other goals coming from Jack Harrison, Luke Elliot and Kyle Newberry. The Oak response came from an own goal.
It was a bit more sedate in the tie between Salterbeck and Sun Inn Athletic. Goals from Leon Wharrier and Charlie Shaw gave Salterbeck a 2-1 win. Mark Campbell responded for the Athletic.
Ties in the east of the county finished as follows:
Jovial Sailor 0, Scotby 7; St Nicholas Arms 3 Dalston Junior Black Reds 2 (aet); Dalston 0, Denton Holme 6; Beehive Reuinited 2, Longtown 4; Currock 5, Dalston Junior Black Reds ‘2000’ 0; Qzone 4, Redfern Inn 3; Museum 2, Inter Pirelli 4; Playing this Sunday FC Houghton v Re-United.
