Sebergham Bridge will close for at least five days to repair significant damage.
Work will start on Monday, November 18, Cumberland Council said.
An incident caused significant damage to the bridge’s parapet wall and temporary traffic lights have been in place to allow vehicles to cross safely.
However, to fully repair the damage, a complete road closure will be required.
The work will take place from Monday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm, with no work on weekends.
Though work is being conducted during these hours, the road will remain closed to traffic throughout the entire period, including emergency service vehicles.
A signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the closure.
Waste collections will be temporarily affected, as the diversion route is not suitable for collection vehicles. Missed collections will resume the following week.
