Wood from an oak tree that was blown down during Storm Arwen has found a new lease of life supporting a much loved shelter in the Lake District.
The tree was felled during the 2021 storm in Coniston which caused havoc across Cumbria.
The wood was retrieved and has been processed at the National Trust’s Boon Cragg sawmill near the village.
A vital beam which supports the cantilever roof in the shelter opposite the welcome hut in the trust’s car park at Stickle Ghyll in Great Langdale needed replacing.
The new beam was carved on site to match the profile of the original.
