Roads update: Drivers urged to take care

Drivers are urged to take care this morning as roads after freezing conditions overnight.

Cumbria police said the roads were icy and urged people to drive to the road conditions.

A collision near Westlakes on the A595 in West Cumbria has caused traffic problems with drivers trying and failing to get through Moor Row and St Bees.

It happened at around 10am at Scalegill Road, Moor Row and involved three vehicles.

Some diversions are in place to manage the traffic but drivers are asked to avoid the area.

A driver tells us he is stuck in St Bees, traffic is not moving and there are people everywhere.

The road is closed both ways from Crow Park way to Mirehouse Road and there is slow traffic due to the collision on A595 Egremont Road.

The A595 was closed in both directions at Duddon Bridge due to multiple collisions earlier this morning.

Due to collisions blocking the road near Buckman Brow and poor road conditions to the north, Millom School has had to close for the day. It is expected to reopen on Monday as normal.

Reports are also coming in that the road between Muncaster and Sellafield is also affected.

The road from Calthwaite to A6 under the railway bridge is very slippery, drivers are reporting.
