West Cumbrian forward Conor Fitzsimmons is staying with York Knights for a third season.
The 26-year-old, who started his career with Seaton Rangers, has agreed a one-year extension to his contract after playing with York for two seasons.
There were hopes back in his native county that he might be tempted home to Workington Town but that has not happened and he is staying with the Knights.
He had initially joined the Knights ahead of the 2023 season from Workington where he had played 50 times, and built his reputation over two seasons with his home-town club.
In those two seasons with York, Fitzsimmons has been a virtual ever-present with 53 games and nine tries.
After cutting his teeth with Seaton, Fitzsimmons had joined Castleford Tigers where he played two games before linking-up with Newcastle Thunder where ne notched another 25 appearances and seven tries.
Knights Head Coach Mark Applegarth is hoping that Fitzsimmons can make more progress next season, believing he still has more to offer.
He said: “I’m really pleased that Fitzy has signed for another year because he showed glimpses last season of what he can be capable of. I’m challenging him to turn in these performances on a consistent basis and consolidate his place in the side.”
