Work is continuing to address erosion along the River Caldew in Carlisle.
Cumberland Council’s contractor Metcalfe Plant Hire is working near Sheepmount Bridge and a crane as now been brought on site to place rock bags at the foot of the eroded riverbank.
The work, which is scheduled for completion by Christmas, is critical for protecting property and addressing erosion while ensuring accessibility for local residents, businesses, and park users, the council said.
The work is being carried out from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with no weekend work. Temporary traffic management measures are in place on Mayor’s Drive, though pedestrian and cyclist routes remain unaffected.
Access to the Sheepmount is being maintained and the facilities there are fully operational. However the informal car park at the top of Mayor’s Drive is temporarily closed as it is being used as the contractor’s work compound.
