Lake District New Year’s Day Dip cancelled

A New Year’s Day Dip in the Lake District has been cancelled.

The dip was arranged to take place in Derwentwater to raise funds for the Lake District Calvert Trust.

However, an uncertain and changeable forecast of strong winds and heavy rain led the team to cancel.

Over 350 people had signed up to take part in the event, which would have been the third for the charity.

Head of income generation, Helen Archibald said: “We’ve been watching, waiting and praying that the weather shows signs of settling but ultimately the safety of our New Year’s Day Dippers and event staff is paramount. We’ve therefore taken the unfortunate decision to cancel  this year’s event.

We’re so grateful to everyone who had signed up, planned their dipping outfit and donated.

“The New Year’s Day Dip has become a firm favourite in our fundraising calendar and a great community event to start the year. Rest assured we’ll be back with bells on next year. In the meantime, we’d like to wish all our dippers a very happy (and dry!) new year.”
