The Coastguard was called out after distress flares were spotted over Workington on New Year’s Eve.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team was called out after three red flares were seen in the Workington area.
The team said: “We deployed and conducted a search on the shoreline at Workington and observing out to sea from the cliffs.
“A short while into the search, we were made aware of another report of the same flares being observed, but inland.
“Once the search was complete and with this additional information, and no vessels having reported distress, we were stood down.”
