Recycling collections continue to be delayed in Barrow

Recycling collections continue to be delayed in the Barrow area.

Westmorland & Furness Council first reported issues with collections on December 30.

It said it was due to a knock-on effect of staff sickness in the Barrow depot and a recycling vehicle being unavailable.

Initial areas affected were Holbeck, Dalton, Lindal and Newton and the authority said it was hoping to complete those on New Year’s Eve.

The rounds scheduled for Tuesday December 31 – in the Ormsgill, Ainslie Street and Oxford Street areas – were rescheduled for today, January 2

There is a delay to the collections in the Barrow Island and Walney area.

A spokesman for Westmorland and Furness Council said: “We have unfortunately suffered issues with recycling collections in some areas of Barrow over the festive period.

“This has been caused by the knock-on effect of some staff sickness in the Barrow depot and one of the recycling vehicles being unavailable.

“Our crews have been working extra shifts to try to clear the backlog and we have posted regular collection updates on our social media channels.

“We have apologised for the inconvenience and appreciate this has been frustrating for the small number of residents affected by the missed recycling collections, especially as many will have extra recycling following the Christmas holiday.

“We are working hard to solve this and will get to you as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience. Please be assured that our crews are doing everything they can to ensure that all missed collections are completed.”
