A Lake District mountain rescue team had their first call out of the year after a walker was injured when they fell on icy ground.
The walker had broken their leg after slipping on Glenridding Dodd and had to be airlifted to hospital.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called at around 1.55pm yesterday, Thursday January 2.
The team said: “Due to the extent of the injury after being examined by the team doctor, the request was made for air support to enable a swift smooth extraction to hospital.”
The Great North Air Ambulance attended and flew the casualty to hospital.
Nine team members were involved in the rescue, which took two hours and 45 minutes to complete.
The team added: “The conditions on the fells at the moment are icy due to the cold conditions so take caution when out, and ensure you have warm layers and clothing.”
