Four lynx which hit the national headlines after being released into the wilds of Scotland are not from a former Cumbrian zoo.
South Lakes Safari Zoo in Dalton-in-Furness closed on December 31 for the final time.
It was first reported that lynx had been illegally released in Scotland on January 8.
This week, South Lakes Safari Zoo has posted on its Facebook page to reassure people that its four lynx left the zoo on December 27 to travel to their new home in Cambridgeshire.
It said its lynx were a completely different species and look nothing like ‘our boys’.
It posted a video of its rehomed lynx and said it was approached by another news organisation and added: “It is an absolutely ridiculous accusation with no basis or merit.
“Here are the boys, safe at home, in Cambridgeshire, not running amok in the Cairngorms.”
