Work will start on 99 new homes in a West Cumbrian village this year.

Genesis Homes, headquartered in Penrith, was given permission for the development in Seaton, near Workington, last February.

Derwent Rise will include 18 affordable homes and as part of the proposal, the housebuilder will create a pond to provide extra drainage capacity in the village, as well as serving the development site.

The firm also revealed work will start on a 90-home estate off Orton Road in Carlisle next month.

John Blue, Genesis Homes’ land and sales director, said: “It’s an extremely exciting time for Genesis Homes as we launch new housing developments across Cumbria and Lancashire, and the beginning of 2025 marks a busy time as we start work on developments totalling close to 300 new homes.”

As part of the Derwent Rise project, Genesis Homes will fund significant drainage infrastructure works to alleviate flooding risks in Seaton.
