Plans have been put forward to move Sedbergh Post Office to keep its services in the town.
Post Office is proposing to relocate its Sedbergh shop on Main Street to a new location at the SPAR on Station Road to allow it to remain in the area.
It comes after the shop’s current postmaster resigned, which means the current premises will be withdrawn for Post Office use.
A new operator for the store has been appointed, who has identified the new potential location to operate the Post Office from.
Post Office said its priority is to safeguard services in the area for the longer term and it is hoped relocating Sedbergh’s Post Office will allow the Post Office service to remain in the community.
The new operator said they firmly believe the move will help to secure continued access to Post Office services locally, as well as supporting the viability of their business.
Local people are encouraged to take part in a consultation on the relocation, which will end on March 11. Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 260418.
Submissions can also be made via email to [email protected], by post to Freepost YOUR COMMENTS, or by telephone 03452 66 01 15 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.
A Post Office service point would be made available alongside the retail counter in the SPAR and opening hours would run from Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6pm, Saturday 8.30am to 1pm, Sunday, 11am to 2pm.
The proposed opening hours would see Post Office services available for an extra 13.5 hours a week including Sunday morning, an end to lunchtime closing and later closing for the convenience of customers.
Post Office said it is also currently reviewing Sedbergh Hosted outreach services, offered by the Postmaster at Sedbergh, which would affect Dent, Barbon and Endmoor. It added an update will be provided in the future on these services.
