A Lake District town’s NatWest branch is set to close later this year.
The Windermere bank, on 2 High Street, will close on May 1, along with 53 other branches across the UK, which will all close before June.
It said that the way people used banks had changed dramatically in recent years, with increased demand for mobile and online services.
It added that on average, over-the-counter transactions have fallen by 62 per cent from October 2019 to October 2024 and that the amount of people using mobile banking had increased by 53 per cent during the same period across the UK.
A letter sent out to NatWest customers living in the town said the nearest physical bank for customers to access was now in Kendal.
NatWest added that closing a branch was a decision it took very seriously and said it would work with customers to guide and support them through the changes.
It added that when closing it branch, it took into consideration things like how often the branch was used, the transactions it was being used for, where the nearest branch was, if there was a local Post Office for everyday banking, other banking options like mobile, online and telephone and nearby shared services like banking hubs.
