Cumbrian fragrance entrepreneur celebrates national success

Three years after creating bespoke candles and room diffusers for family, friends and colleagues, a Cumbrian entrepreneur is celebrating national sales.

John Watt said: “Within days of my Cedar & Oak website going live, I took orders from customers in London, Edinburgh, Newcastle, South Cumbria, Lancashire and Manchester.”

Cedar & Oak produce wickless candles, drawer fresheners, pomanders, melts, room sprays and reed diffusers and is named after trees renowned for longevity and aromatic qualities.

“Unlike many cheaper, mass produced home fragrance products, the Cedar & Oak range of gifts is deep, intense and long-lasting,” said Mr Watt, of St James Road, Carlisle.

“The room diffusers last for 12 months or more and the drawer fresheners are incredibly durable.”

Fragrances include lavender & frankincense, rhubarb & spearmint, coconut & lime, tomato, gooseberry and a signature scent called Thurible which is a blend of nine essential oils.

“I always viewed Cedar & Oak as a small underground word of mouth venture,” said Mr Watt, “but after taking part in producers’ markets in Cumbria, Lancashire and South West Scotland the business really took off.”

Cedar & Oak supplies products wholesale to other outlets including Hair Spa and Crystals & More in Carlisle as well as a bespoke range for Gilded Gold Design House.
