A Lake District railway station is taking part in a trial to help improve accessibility and customer service.
Windermere Railway Station now has a black and yellow unit, called a welcome point, installed by Northern, which the train operator said, are a focal point for assistance and information.
The units have been developed with accessibility groups and passenger bodies and are designed to meet the needs of wheelchair users and include the latest British Sign Language translation to better support deaf passengers.
Northern has worked with the Rail Delivery Group on the project.
Jacqueline Starr, chair and chief executive of the Rail Delivery Group, said: “Feedback from passenger bodies and accessibility groups has strongly indicated that there is a need to improve the customer experience on arrival at many stations.
“Previous customer feedback has highlighted the inconsistency and difficulty of understanding and accessing station services which creates a barrier to using the railway. We have listened to feedback and agree that welcome points could greatly enhance the customer experience at stations.”
