A West Cumbrian wind turbine could be replaced with a taller one if the plans are approved next week.
Windlend (Cumbria) Ltd want to replace the turbine at land west of Energy Coast Business Park, off the A595, Haile, near Egremont, with a more efficient one.
The existing turbine has a ground to tip height of 46.5m and the new one would have a 77m ground to tip height, with a hub height of 46m.
The new turbine would be placed in a new location, 24.3m to the south east of the existing one.
Members of Cumberland Council’s planning committee are due to consider the application next Wednesday, February 19.
The new turbine would be in place for 30 years and after that time, either be removed or new permission would be applied for.
A report for councillors to consider said that an application in 2013 for a 79.6m turbine was refused because it would be harmful to the existing landscape and an incongruous feature. An appeal against that decision was dismissed by the Planning Inspectorate.
This new application has been recommended for approval.
Haile and Wilton Parish Council has objected to the proposal.
It said: “The turbine height will nearly be doubled which will have a massive visual impact on
the residents of Haile, Oaklands, Yeorton Hall and Whitehow Head.
“There’s also the increase in noise and blade flicker to be taken into account.”
