Workington’s 1-0 home victory over Hyde United secured another three points in their quest to end the season with a flourish.
They have been embroiled in a relegation battle in recent months but four wins from their last six outings sees them nearer a top 10 berth than the relegation zone.
And it was important to back up their midweek success at Bamber Bridge with a solid performance against Hyde United and they emerged deserved, albeit narrow, winners in a tight Premier Division encounter at Borough Park.
The victory was secured with a 79th minute goal from Connor Pani when Steven Rigg’s assist set up the Gateshead player’s first goal for Reds.
Workington were also indebted to another loan player, Blackburn Rovers’ Jack Barrett. He was drafted in on Thursday to cover for the injured Alex Mitchell and, in a straightforward debut, helped record Reds’ first clean sheet in 12 outings.

Both newcomers contributed to Workington’s 11th win of the season in a good solid team performance.
Assistant manager, Graham Lancashire, was pleased with the victory and praised their efforts.
“The back four was excellent today and clean sheets are vital for any team to progress, we haven’t kept too many recently.
“Another important factor in our last couple of matches has been viable options on the bench and that helped. Overall, it has been a good week’s work and two important victories.”

Hyde have established an excellent NPL record against Workington but they were second best on this occasion and the setback could damage any lingering play-off aspirations they had.
Workington travel to play fourth placed Worksop Town next week with that game and their four remaining away matches all scheduled to be played on a 4G surface.
