Workington Juniors clinched the Cumberland County League Division One title on Saturday with two matches remaining.
In what is proving to be a fantastic debut season of Workington, they went into the match needing to make sure that they didn’t lose to win the league.
And they smashed that aim by beating Dearham United 7-1 with goals coming from Jack Dunstan, Tyler Harrell, Danny Manchester with Chad Grisdale and Macauley Sharp both scoring braces. Jack Brown got Dearham’s goal.
After the match, Workington Juniors manager Steven Sharp spoke to Non League Cumbria on X about winning the title. He said: “I’m very pleased to win the league and with record points from what I can see, we hope we can add a few more trophies to finish this campaign off on a high in our debut season!”
Elsewhere in Division One, Mirehouse who sat in second and were the only team that could catch Workington Juniors up at the start of the day earned themselves a 4-0 win against Whitehaven AFC Reserves with goals coming from Callum Wilson, Jack Burns, Ryan O’Neill and Bradley Conaluca.
Goals from Ben Mahaffy, Darren Donald and Dawson Webster with a double helped Windscale Reserves to a 4-0 victory against Whitehaven Miners Social Development.
In the Premier Division on Saturday, Cockermouth extended their lead at the top with a nice 6-3 win against Wigton Harriers. Luke Graham hit a hat trick with Rob Cox, Keith Skillen and Louis Pickering netting the other goals. Alan Inglis and Michael Riding with two were on the score sheet for Wigton.
Maryport Athletic are still unbeaten in the league after a 6-0 win against Keswick with goals from Darren Rule, Ciaran Laverty, Ethan Weir, Logan Bosward and Cameron Harker with a brace.
Hadleigh Davies, Paul McNally, Nathan Walkingshaw, Bradley O’Pray and Aidan Graham all netted for Whitehaven Miners Social to help them record a 5-1 victory against Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves whose goal came from Sam Stones.
The match between Aspatria and Unisun Athletic was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
