An injured 12-year-old mountain biker was rescued from a forest after hitting a tree.

Penrith Mountain Rescue Team said they were called out at around 2.20pm on Friday to Coombs Woods in Armathwaite by the North West Ambulance Service.

The youngster had come off their bike and sustained a head injury following an impact with a tree.

The Great North Air Ambulance had also been called out to the incident.

Penrith Mountain Rescue Team said: “Help was required to evacuate him from the steep woodland. Team members deployed and were able to assist, bringing the casualty up the slope on our stretcher back to the roadside where he was transported for further treatment by an ambulance.”

On Saturday at around 6pm, the team was called to Knock Fell in the North Pennines after a walker suffered a suspected broken ankle while descending the Pennine Way towards Dufton.

Penrith Mountain Rescue Team said: “Team members, along with colleagues from Kirkby Stephen team, were able to use a farm track to get close to the incident site.

“The casualty was given pain relief and had their leg splinted before being stretchered across to the Great Dun Fell access road where they were handed over to an NWAS ambulance for further treatment.

“The casualty’s companion was given a lift back to their car in Dufton. Many thanks to Far Close Farm for letting us park team members’ vehicles in their yard and access the casualty through their land.”

Last week, three team members, as part of the Lakes drone team, also took part in the search for the missing Jenny Hall in County Durham.
