
Emergency services were called out to a car fire in Kendal.
The incident, in Aysgarth Close, happened on Thursday.
Cumbria police said they were called at around 1.40pm to the close, and the car fire was extinguished by 1.49pm.
Smoke had blown into the property and a woman was taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.
A neighbour said: “We had to evacuate our bungalow and run right past the fire. It was a full on fire ball exploding twice when we ran past.
“All residents of the close had to be evacuated to the bottom of the street due to the severity of the fire, which had caught a kitchen window on fire and guttering.
“I first noticed thick black toxic smoke coming past my kitchen window and I instantly thought her house was on fire, I the rung fire service.
“There was several small explosions.
“A young lad was going door to door making sure everyone was out to safety.”
