Roadworks will begin today for up to six weeks on a section of the A595.
Resurfacing and pavement work will be carried out at Holmrook in West Cumbria as part of a wider £14.3 million scheme, led by Cumberland Council.
The work will take place in two phases.
From today until Monday March 31, pavement reconstruction and the drainage repairs will be carried out under temporary traffic lights from 7.30am to 6pm for five weeks.
From Monday March 31 to Saturday April 5, resurfacing work will be carried out and the road will be closed from 7pm to 5am.
Between 7pm and 10pm, vehicles will be escorted through the site. After 10pm, the road will remain fully closed to allow the contractor to complete the work safely.
During the day, temporary traffic lights will be in operation.
Vehicle access for residents and businesses will be permitted whenever it is safe to do so. However there may be times when access is restricted due to ongoing work, Cumberland Council said.
