A proposal to create a solar farm in Allonby has been revealed.
If approved by Cumberland Council, the scheme, at Mealo House Farm, would see 12 arrays – each with 36 panels – erected.
The proposal would support the existing farm and caravan site business providing a renewable energy resource.
The application said: “The siting needs to be close to the farmstead to feedback into the existing systems.
“Due to the distance from the listed building and the intervening farm and caravan uses located between the listed building and the proposed solar array would not adversely impact on the setting of the listed building.
“Due to the scale of the farm and the caravan park the energy need is large thus a renewable scheme that can provide a large amount of energy is required.
“The proposal helps to support the existing farm and caravan site providing a renewable energy resource.
“The site has been chosen to provide sufficient distance from the listed building and within a low-level field to result in minimal wider views. The proposal accords with relevant planning policies.”
