Forty-eight Cumbrian community organisations have been awarded almost £110,000 to help their work.
Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen recently awarded £109,949 from his Community Fund – the most it has ever awarded.
The Community Fund awards grants of up to £2,500 for projects that deliver interventions with a specific focus on reducing issues associated with anti-social behaviour and crime.
Mr Allen said: “This round of the community fund has seen the most ever applications to the fund and the most funds ever given out.
“I know how important tackling anti-social behaviour is, it is what I promised I would do, and through the Community Fund we’re giving funds back to the communities and leaders within them who go above and beyond for their communities every single day.
“We have received a number of brilliant applications from across our county. I’m proud to have funded boxing clubs, rugby clubs, army cadet centres and many youth clubs which help to give kids a safe place to go at night and learn the importance of discipline and training.”
Chief Superintendent Andy Wilkinson, Neighbourhood Policing Lead for Cumbria Constabulary, said: “It is positive to see so many projects in Cumbria benefiting from The Community Fund.
“The efforts by community groups not only assists the Constabulary to reduce and deter crime and anti-social behaviour, but also create a valuable place for young people and members of the community.”
