Two men have been jailed for several crimes including aggravated burglary and dangerous driving after speeding through Carlisle at 80mph in a 30mph zone.

At Carlisle Crown Court, Kye Halliburton, 33, of Edderside Drive, Carlisle, was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison and Callum Kerr, 29, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to nine years in prison.

They were sentenced after incidents that happened in July last year.

Callum Kerr was sentenced for:

  • Dangerous driving
  • Two counts of driving whilst disqualified
  • Two counts of driving without insurance
  • Aggravated Burglary- dwelling
  • Threaten with a bladed article in a private place
  • Possession of a bladed article in a public place
  • Theft of a vehicle

Kye Halliburton was sentenced for:

  • Aggravated burglary – dwelling
  • Affray
  • Possession with intent to supply a class A drug

On July 18 last year, police officers activated blue lights requesting a grey Mercedes to stop after it was sighted speeding.

Officers identified Kerr as the driver who failed to stop for police and drove through Carlisle at speed.

Kerr, while, trying to avoid police damaged the vehicle and officers discontinued the pursuit for the safety of the public. The vehicle was later found abandoned.

Kerr had been disqualified from driving in 2023.

On July 20, policce received a call reporting two men having forced entry to a house on St Constantine Way in Carlisle wearing balaclavas and threatened the occupant with knives.

The men asked the occupant ‘Where’s the money?’ and approached him in attempt to stab him. The occupant told the men to stop as there was a child in the property and that they could search the house.

The men left the property via the front door taking the keys for this door as well as the occupants keys to his Mercedes. These keys were then used to open the Mercedes; with one of the men getting into the vehicle and droving off.

The men were identified as Kerr and Halliburton and had travelled to the address in a black Land Rover Discovery.

Kerr was located and arrested the following day in clothing that matched footage from the property and was found in possession of the stolen Mercedes key. The vehicle was also located nearby.

Halliburton was arrested on July 24 at a hotel in Cockermouth, during his arrest officers located clothing matching those worn during the burglary.

The Black Land Rover was found on the outskirts of Penrith. CCTV in the area, shows that a grey Mercedes was with the vehicle when it was left, the Mercedes then leaves the area.

Detective Constable Sarah Brookes, the investigating officer said “Kerr and Halliburton committed multiple offences before being arrested.

“Kerr put members of the pubic at risk whilst driving dangerously through Carlisle while also disqualified.

“Both then went on to threaten an occupant within his own property with a knife putting him at fear of being harmed and ignored his pleas to stop due to a child being in the property.

“Cumbria police take all reports of violence and burglary extremely seriously and we are committed to working with communities to bring offenders to justice.

We understand the impact these offences have on the victims, and we will not tolerate this behaviour in our communities.”
