Excitement is building as organisers prepare for Cumbria’s first Ultimate Touch Rugby Day.
The new event, backed by Cumbria RFU, will be held next Saturday, April 19, at Ambleside Rugby Club
Six teams have entered the competition from both codes so far – and organisers said there is room for more to join.
It is for all levels of rugby, mixed sex teams, talent spotting, building of positive rugby connections, and a well earned social.
It is open to anyone over 18 and organiser Clare Gelderd said there was already interest for senior touch teams with players aged up to 70.
She added: “The new score board at Ambleside Rugby Club is ready for a day full or results! We are optimistic that we can pull together around 8 or 10 teams on the day.
“As it stands six teams are in place and we have many individuals coming along on the day to make teams too. Whether you play rugby, enjoy fitness, or just fancy having a go, we encourage you to come along with your boots, or trainers and give it a go.”
The day is open to spectators and everyone is welcome.
Catering will be provided by Liz’s Country Kitchens and ice cream by Uncle Sam’s Ice Cream Van.
Thanks to the wonderful generosity of Cumbria businesses there will also be a raffle on the day, with prizes totalling over £600.
Clare and co-organiser Andrew Brown said they were working hard as they get everything in place for the fun filled rugby day.
To add to the social side of the day there will be recognition for, best drop goal attempt, most social, best team leader and most creative try and best outfit/kit.
They added: “We felt it was important to keep the day light-hearted, ensuring all abilities can be seen and heard.”
To enter a team or pop along on your own just turn up on the day at 1pm and check in with Clare.
