Workington Golf Club delivered their most emphatic performance of the Eric McMullen Memorial TKO Handicap Trophy qualifying stage so far, crushing fellow Division 1 side United Club A by a commanding 6-1 scoreline in Round 8 action.
The match opened with a competitive frame as Golf Club’s Mark Brasted (+14) produced some good snooker, but it was Dave Chapman (+24) who held firm under pressure, claiming a 57-48 victory to hand United Club A the early lead.
However, the Golf Club wasted no time in responding. Brian Walker (+20) played a tactically sound frame to defeat Clive Lister (+18) 52-40 and level the scores at 1-1.
Momentum began to shift in the doubles, as Walker and Brastad (combined +17) edged out a gritty 63-52 win over Peter O’Hagan and Tony Hindmoor (combined +27) to move Golf Club into the lead.
The fourth frame proved pivotal, as Golf Club’s second pairing of Ryan Ismay and Simon Fraser (combined +19) clicked into gear. Ismay crafted a stylish break of 30, helping secure a 75-54 victory over Lister and Chapman (+21), putting the hosts 3-1 up.
Returning to singles, Ryan Ismay (+10) was in imperious form. A stunning break of 39, the highest of the match, saw him dismantle Peter O’Hagan (+6) with an 80-23 demolition to extend the lead to 4-1.
The sixth frame saw more break-building excellence, this time from Phil Sorfleet (+14), who compiled a neat 35 break to dispatch Mark Suitor (+32) 74-50, sealing the match for the Golf Club at 5-1.
With the result already decided, Simon Fraser (+28) rounded off a near-flawless evening with a steady 70-50 win over Tony Hindmoor (+50), giving Workington Golf Club a commanding 6-1 triumph.

The victory propels Golf Club to 4 wins and 30 frames, firmly placing them among the top contenders for a semi-final berth. United Club A remain on 5 wins and 24 frames, the win ratio making them certainties for the last four.
Up next, qualifying leaders Station Road maintained their impressive qualifying form with a narrow but hard-fought 4-3 home win over Division 1 rivals Workington Veterans Club A.
The visitors came out firing in the opening frame with Mark Tunstall (+25) delivering a composed performance, dominating a frustrated John Teasdale (+20) who conceded early with reds still remaining, thus handing Vets A a commanding 41-1 victory and a 1-0 lead.
Vets captain Kevin Basnett (Scr) then showcased his class in frame two as in railing by nearly 40 points against Tom Thompson (+22), Basnett produced a superb break of 34 to shift momentum and eventually secure an 86-43 win, doubling the Vets’ advantage at 2-0.
Nevertheless Station Road are nothing if not resilient as first of the doubles frames saw their comeback begin. Chris Hunter and John Teasdale (+25) played a sharp tactical frame to overcome Paul Smith and Mark Tunstall (+32) by 67-52, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
The equaliser followed swiftly, as Thompson and Darren Lawson (+22) played with confidence and control, sweeping aside Basnett and Stephen O’Hagan (+10) in a dominant 64-18 win to bring the match level at 2-2.
In the fifth frame, O’Hagan (+19) reignited the Vets’ challenge. After a strong start from Chris Hunter (+30), O’Hagan responded with a well-crafted break of 31, pulling away for a convincing 73-26 victory to make it 3-2 to the Vets.
However Station Road responded yet again, with Darren Lawson (+22) producing a strong all-round display to hold off Paul Smith (+38) and notch a 73-34 win, bringing the score back to 3-3.
Unfortunately Vets A were unable to field a seventh player, handing Kevin Kirkham and Station Road the walkover frame and securing a 4-3 victory for the qualifying leaders.
Station Road now move to 6 wins and 31 frames, tightening their grip on top spot. Workington Veterans Club A sit at 3 wins and 23 frames, meaning their qualifying hopes now hanging by a thread.
The third qualifying match saw Maryport Social secure a 4-3 home win over Workington Cons, but with all their qualifying game now complete their plate fate is to be decided by other results.

Despite Mark Ritson (+50) putting in a steady effort in the opener, he was swept aside by Julian Plaza (+21) who produced an excellent display to win 85-37 and give Cons the lead.
Maryport hit back quickly as Andrew Sharp (+32) looked solid from the off as he capitalised against an out of sorts Alan Moore (+13) to record a 67-17 win and level the match at 1-1.
The home side then took the lead as Andrew Scott and Gary Miller put Maryport 2-1 up with a 55-27 doubles win over Brian Kendall and Moore (+26).
Cons responded though, as Ryan Barker and Dave Holland (+26) outlasted Ben Scott and Sharp (+32) in a close frame, eventually winning 68-34 to pull it back to 2-2.
Back to the singles frames and it was Andrew Scott (+31) who defeated Kendall (+50) 51-41 to put Maryport back in the lead at 3-2.
In the penultimate frame, a standout break of 32 by Barker (+31) powered the Cons cueist to a commanding 87-61 win over Ben Scott (+36) to level the match at 3-3.
It was Maryport however who finished the stronger with Gary Miller (+35) holding his nerve in the deciding frame, taking a tense 65-41 win over Holland (+21) to seal a thrilling 4-3 triumph.
With Workington Cons on just 2 wins their main qualification cannot be achieved but with 23 frames their plate entry is assured.
The Rack Shack continued their excellent cup form with a composed 5-2 away win against Veterans Club B, thanks to a series of dominant displays from the ever improving Whitehaven outfit.
The division 2 side started brightly as Neil Dougherty (+43) edged out Wayne Sinclair (+31) 71-41 in frame one but it was Vets B’s Adam Hodgson (+45) who followed this with a ruthless 66-13 win over Adam Morilla (+39) to make it 1-1.
Neil Dougherty returned with Lee Dougherty (+42) in frame three to face Hodgson and Sinclair and once more prevailed, this time with a steady 58-25 win to put the visitors 2-1 up.
Morilla and Phil Denvir (+38) then continued the Rack Shack charge, defeating Simon Tootle and Jordan Ferguson 69-26 to extend the Rack Shack lead to 3-1.
