Lakes Parish Council has pledged £2,400 towards testing the water quality of Windermere at Waterhead.
The initiative, which will begin this month, is a joint campaign with Ambleside Action for a Future and is aimed at protecting and improving the water quality at the location which is popular with locals and visitors.
Weekly testing will see rapid, on-site assessments carried out along with samples taken away for laboratory analysis over 28 weeks.
The council said: “These tests will provide valuable data on the health of the lake and help identify the presence of potentially harmful algal blooms and e.coli outbreaks which can pose risks to both people and animals.”
The results will also be accessible with a new website development and QR codes linked to it due to be displayed on signs in flowerbeds managed by the parish council.
“By increasing awareness and gathering regular data we hope to take proactive steps towards maintaining a cleaner, safer lakeside environment for residents and visitors alike,” the council said.
