A call has gone out for people to help a West Cumbrian rescue organisation get a share of £300,000-worth of grants to help it continue its work.
West Cumbria Search and Rescue has the chance to be given cash to help keep the charity running – but it needs votes.
It is featured in the June round of My Giving Circle and it is asking people to take five minutes to register their vote.
West Cumbria Search and Rescue was set up to respond with blue light agencies to find and locate missing people and bring them home to their families. All its officers are volunteers and give up their time for the organisation.
Volunteers are on call 24 hours a day and are also flood swift water rescue trained and respond to water rescue incidents and responds to calls for missing or injured animals that may need rescuing.
Members regularly carry out safety talks in schools and attends events – volunteers were at last night’s Uppies and Downies game in Workington.
It also has a medical team.
A spokesman said: “We rely on help and support from companies and organisations and the support from our local community to keep running.
“We are passionate about what we do and helping others. We work closely with different councils on events.
“The organisation has to pay for everything to keep operating uniform, training qualifications, vehicles, water rescue equipment, insurance, and much more.”
