Jordan Burns leaves the field of play after his injury (Ben Challis)

Whitehaven’s captain Jordan Burns has suffered major injuries following a nasty knock in the West Cumbrian Good Friday derby with Workington Town.

Whitehaven released a statement last night to say: “Jordan has been seen in hospital following leaving the field in the opening minutes of the game.

“Unfortunately our captain has broken his eye socket in multiple places and fractured his cheekbone.

“We will know more about his treatment and recovery early next week.

“Our thoughts are with you Budsy!”

Burns also coaches at Kells. The club said: “Get well soon, Coach Jordan! Everyone at Kells Youth are wishing you a speedy recovery after your injury in the Town vs Haven game.

“The whole Raptors and Kells U6s squad are sending big love and good vibes your way. Take it easy, rest up, and we’ll see you back in action before you know it!”
