Stefan Scott is the hailer for Workington’s Uppies & Downies game on Easter Tuesday.
Following a hard-fought battle between the two sides – with neither giving an inch – for around three-and-a-half hours, Scott’s brother Jaden made an epic run to break the deadlock and claim victory for the Uppies.
It was Stefan’s first hail and the 32-year-old said it was a joint effort with Jaden.
Stefan said he was chasing him, asking if he was an Uppie or a Downie before realising he was his brother. Jaden then supported Stefan all the way to the hailing point.
Stefan added that his missus had tod him to go home beforehand!
The traditional mass no rules football game takes place in Workington every Easter and dates back hundreds of years. There are three games each year – Good Friday, Easter Tuesday and the following Saturday.
Uppies have to hail the ball – throw it up in the air three times – at the gates of Workington Hall, while the Downies have to hail it at the harbour.

It was a tough game on Easter Tuesday – and the majority of it took place on the car park of the town’s Travelodge.
It did result in a few casualties – vehicles in the car park were dented due to the sheer mass of bodies in the scrum as each side tried to get the ball away.
Stefan was given £500 for hailing the ball by Speed Competitions and said he planned to give the cash to charity.
