Cumbria police said it was likely that more than 100 people would be arrested by the end of April as part of their crackdown on drivers.
The force is running a month-long campaign – Operation Spotlight – to target the Fatal Four, which are the most dangerous behaviours on the road.
The Fatal Four are speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs.
In Maryport yesterday, officers stopped a car at 8.30am after suspecting the driver may have been under the influence.
The driver failed a roadside drugs wipe for cocaine and cannabis and was arrested.
He was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs following a search of this vehicle.
He was released under investigation to allow time for blood test results.
Officers also stopped a car in Ulverston yesterday as the driver had no licence and no insurance. He also failed a roadside drugs wipe for cannabis.
The driver was charged with driving without a licence, driving without insurance and failure to provide a specimen for analysis, whilst in custody.
He is due in court next month.
