Darren Edmondson is coming back to Borough Park after being named as Workington Reds manager for a second time.
Edmondson, 53, took charge of the Reds in 2007, keeping them in the National North before leaving in 2013 to manage Barrow.
He led them to promotion from National North to the National League in his second season.
His appointment for a second time has been predicted for a fortnight after he attended Reds final game of the season, although nothing has been confirmed since until this afternoon.
In a board statement the Reds said: “Darren was high on our list of targets as e looked to fill the vacant position. He fits our club profile perfectly and his links within the county and beyond will bring footballing benefits across the whole club.
“On top of that of course he was our longest serving manager in his previous spwell with the club.
“Darren will bring with him Richard Prokas who was his assistant at Penrith and they will work alongside Brian Dawson and Billy Redden to prepare the squad for the new season.”
Vice chairman Richard Lewthwaite added: “We are delighted to have got Darren and Richard into the club. They share our ambition and desire to continue to climb the pyramid whilst maintain the club in a position of stability and sustainability.
“Our aim is nothing less than continued progression amd building on the foundations that have been laid over the past few seasons.”
After leaving Barrow, Edmondson had a spell as caretaker manager at Bradford PA and then worked in a coaching capacity at Rochdale.
More recently he has been in charge at Penrith where Prokas was his assistant.
Coniston-born Edmondson played over 200 games for Carlisle United and topped a century of appearances for York City.
He also played for Huddersfield and Chester.
