An application by Workington AFC to join the West Lancashire League has been rejected.
Member clubs voted against Workington Development team’s bid to join the competition.
Director and vice-chairman, Richard Lewthwaite, and RITC lead, Brian Dawson, attended the AGM at Croston Sports, near Leyland, with the former presenting Reds’ bid to the membership.
But, with four clubs applying for three places, one club was going to miss out and, after polling just 18 votes, it was Reds who were given the thumbs down.
Galgate, who finished bottom of Division Two, had to apply for re-election and were successful in doing so and retained their place.
Elected to the league, which hosts several Cumbrian clubs among its membership, were Langho and Appleby Bridge. Bacup Borough withdrew their application before the AGM.
