A major search was launched by emergency services after an empty boat washed up on a beach in South Cumbria.

Emergency services were called yesterday, Saturday June 8, at around 4.55pm after the tender washed ashore near Arnside Holiday Park.

Furness, Arnside & South Lakes and Knott End Coastguard rescue teams, Barrow RNLI, Morecambe RNLI, Fleetwood RNLI, the Coastguard helicopter, Bay Search and Rescue, Ulverston Inshore Rescue and Cumbria police were involved in the search.

All teams were tasked to search for a possible missing person from a tender that washed ashore near Arnside.

Furness Coastguard Rescue Team said: “We were tasked to check the boatyards in the Barrow area to try and gather further information regarding the vessel/owner before continuing to search along the coastline to Humphrey Head.

“At Humphrey Head, the team were notified that the owner had been located safe and well.”
