
An overheard remark about stolen goods has led to a man being charged with six offences.
Kendal Neighbourhood Policing Team were called on Saturday after a resident heard a suspicious conversation about stolen goods being stored in the Castle Street area of the town.
South Lakes Police said: “A search of the vicinity led officers to recover a suspected stolen ebike and a number of items from various retailers around the town centre.
“A quick flick through the CCTV established a suspect who, thanks to his attire, a bright orange jacket, was located and arrested a short while later. “
Ian Rimmer, 57, of no fixed abode, has bee charged with:
- 1 count of going equipped for theft
- 3 counts of theft from shops
- 1 count of possession of cannabis
- 1 count of criminal damage
Rimmer was due to appear in court this morning.
South Lakes Police added: “This whole investigation arose from a vigilant member of our community and we’re grateful to them for getting in touch.
“The retailers were unaware they were victims until we contacted them but will now be reunited with their property.”
