Tickets have gone on sale for a unique Santa’s grotto experience in the Lake District.

Honister Slate Mine has launched the experience this week and said there is a new twist to the underground adventure.

The underground journey takes visitors through twinkling ancient passageways and enchanted chambers – all brought to life with festive storytelling, larger-than-life elves and a magical meeting with Father Christmas.

Returning from November 15 to December 24, this year’s event will see the launch of a new finale – an underground sledging slope.

Visitors are taken by bus up Honister Pass to reach the mine entrance, before being led into the depths of the mountain by Santa’s cheerful elf guides. Along the way, they’ll encounter hidden workshops, seasonal secrets and glowing signs that they’re getting closer to Santa’s secret hideaway.

Shanna Turner, marketing manager at Honister, said: “Every year we’re overwhelmed by the response to the grotto.

“People travel from across the country because there’s really nothing else like it. We launched tickets early this year because our regulars were already asking, and with the new sledging experience, we expect dates to go even faster.”

Tickets for Santa’s Secret Grotto are now available via www.honister.com.
