
Workington Cricket Club Under-13s won the County Cup final and will now progress into the national competition.
The team faced Appleby Eden Cricket Club’ in Appleby yesterday.
Appleby were put into bat first after Workington won the toss.
Accurate bowling and tight fielding kept the Appleby Eden score to 85 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs before Workingtons opening batters made a good foundation to start their win.
Workington proceeded to score a winning total of 87 runs off just 9.3 overs securing the title of county champions.
The majority of the Workington side have played together for the last four seasons and many feature in Cumbria county teams and Workington’s senior teams.
The club is always looking out for youngsters to join their youth squads, training is on a Monday or Wednesday evening depending on age and the women’s & girls’ section is growing in numbers and strength, the club added.
The team now travel to play Lancashire’s county champions at Blackpool Cricket Club.
