A Carlisle woman is due to be sentenced by a judge next month for stealing thousands of pounds from two pensioners while working at a city care home.
Thirty-year-old Jessica Gregson appeared in front of magistrates this morning.
During a short hearing, Gregson pleaded guilty to two offences.
One involves fraud by dishonestly making a false representation: namely that she had permission to use a bank card in a man’s name.
A second crime relates to the theft of £9,414.80 from the man.
Gregson’s offending occurred over nine months, between April 3 2023 and January 8 2024.
Earlier this year, Gregson pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and theft relating to a different care home resident.
She admitted using that woman’s card without permission, and stealing £6,140.50 from her between December 1 2023, and February 7 the following year.
It was when Gregson appeared at Carlisle Crown Court in May in relation to those original two charges that a judge learned there may be a second victim.
Relatives of that man — who has since died — were present in court on that occasion.
The case was adjourned at that stage for further enquiries to be made. As a result, two additional charges were brought and these were admitted in court today.
“Miss Gregson was working in a care home,” prosecutor Diane Jackson said during this morning’s hearing. “This is in relation to two of the residents.”
A crown court judge, in May, had observed that Gregson’s offending — at that time limited only to the woman — was despicable.
The case of Gregson, of Cranbourne Road, Carlisle, was sent to the crown court.
She is due to appear in front of a judge for sentencing on August 1, and in the meantime has been granted unconditional bail.
