Prolonged rain over Cumbria in recent days led to the cancellation of a charity walk in aid of hospitals around Morecambe Bay.

Bay Hospitals Charity supporters had been due to be led across the Bay from Arnside to Grange-over-Sands yesterday, Sunday July 6, by King’s sand pilot Michael Wilson to raise money for the charity.

However on Saturday Mr Wilson discovered a gully – or ‘brick’ – had appeared in the River Kent, making the crossing potentially dangerous.

“With events like this safety has to come first so we took the difficult decision to cancel the walk on Sunday,” Joanne Wilson told Cumbria Crack while Michael was cockling at Pilling.

“We’re now looking at offering an alternative date to the organisers so the walk can still go ahead.”

The popular walk is a major draw in the summer months with hundreds taking part in the event, often raising money for good causes.
