A festival to celebrate Kendal’s wildlife heritage will be held later this month.
The first Kendal Nature Recovery Festival, on July 19 and July 20, will see 50 organisations transform the town’s Market Place and Kendal College’s Westmorland Campus.
They will highlight the town’s biodiversity and promote vital conservation efforts in response to the dramatic decline in UK wildlife populations.
The festival will feature a wildlife photography exhibition, artwork created by local schools and artists, expert talks and discussions, live performances, and guided nature walks.
Craig Russell chair of Natural Kendal, the organising group, said: “We are fortunate to live on the doorstep of the most beautiful natural park in the world but we know that urgent action is needed to protect and restore our natural environment for future generations.”
The festival, co-ordinated by local groups and volunteers in Natural Kendal, aims to put Kendal on the map as a model for nature recovery, demonstrating how communities can work together to improve habitats for the benefit of diverse plants and animals, as well as human wellbeing.
