Former Whitehaven winger Lachlan Walmsley has signed a new one-year contract to stay at Wakefield Trinity for the 2026 season.
It was Whitehaven who gave the Australian his initial chance in Britain for the 2021 season when he scored 15 tries in 21 games – and kicked 75 goals.
He came through the youth system back home at the Newcastle Knights and reserve grade for the South Sydney Rabbitohs and played for New South Wales Under-18’s in the State of Origin at youth level.
After that first season with Whitehaven he switched to Halifax for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, proving a crowd favourite as he had been at the Recreation Ground. He scored 68 tries in only 54 games over the two years.
Walmsley, now 27, has spent the last two seasons with Wakefield, firstly in the Championship and then Super League.
The Scotland winger has scored seven tries in his 11 games so far in the current campaign after bagging 32 last season.
He told the club’s website: “I’ve really enjoyed the last two years with Wakefield and I’m really happy to extend for another year.
“As a club, Trinity is going in a positive direction and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Wakefield are sixth in the Super League table following promotion from the Championship last year.
Of Scottish descent he has earned four caps for Scotland and has scored two international tries.
