A group of young farmers proved there really ain’t no mountain high enough for them as they completed a mammoth charity challenge.
Raughton Head Young Farmers Club’s Many Mountains for MND took place yesterday and saw members summit the Lake District’s 214 Wainwrights in a single day.
In just over 13 hours, over 160 members, plus 20 four-legged supporters, laced up their boots and tackled the massive challenge to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Nab Scar was the first fell climbed at 5.52am by Kate Rowland and Sarah Robinson and Rossett Pike was the final peak summited at 6.15pm by Emma McCune and team.
The charity is close to the club’s heart. In February last year, farmer Robert Messenger was diagnosed with MND.

Kate Rowand, of the club, said: ” He is a retired member of Raughton Head and parent of four current members of the club.

“From the moment of his diagnosis, it was a certainty that MND would be our club charity with the hopes to raise as much awareness and fundraising as possible for such a worthy cause so close to home.

“It was amazing to see the support that Raughton Head YFC receive and the community that comes together when fundraising for a charity so important to us!

“Yes – there were sore legs, blistered feet, and probably some dodgy weather. But there was also overwhelming community spirit, support, and a shared sense of pride that we’d done something huge – together.

“There is currently no cure for MND but with continued awareness and fundraising, we believe that can change.

“We have currently raised over £15,000 but we are determined to see how much more we can raise!”

Raughton Head Young Farmers Club raised £26,767.77 for the association last year, in their Many Miles For MND Challenge.
