Both games in last night’s Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL proved to be tight, hard-fought affairs.

Both Premier Division clashes at Cockermouth and Wath Brow provided excellent entertainment for the amateur RL enthusiasts.

Reigning champions Wath Brow A needed a late try and conversion to deprive Seaton Rangers of going joint top with Maryport.

It finished 14-12 to the Hornets as Jake Moore’s try levelled the scores and the same player kept his nerve to land the winning conversion.

Seaton had led 12-4 at half-time with tries by Jon Carl Bryan and Lewis Brown, both converted by Ciaran Walker.

Isaac Scott had scored the opener for Wath Brow and in the second half  Jackson Benn also crossed for an unconverted try. It set the stage for Moore’s Brow rescue act in the closing stages.

In the other game  Cockermouth beat Flimby 30-22, out-scoring their visitors by six tries to four.

Jamie Lightfoot (2), Justin Priest, Jordan Herve, Adam Cavanagh and Alex Butterfield crossed for the Titans, three of them converted by Regan Tinnion.

Rhys Booty led the Flimby response with a hat-trick of tries while Nathan Kirkbride also touched down. Dan Weir added three conversions.

It means that the battle for the top four looks like this – Maryport played 10, points 18; Seaton 10, 16; Wath Brow A 10, 14; Cockermouth 11, 10; Lowca 9, 8; Flimby 9, 6.
