A Carlisle man has appeared in court accused of an intentional attack on a woman, who received hospital treatment for a broken jaw, nose and eye socket.
Daniel Norman, 35, of Shadygrove Road, faces three charges.
One alleges that he unlawfully and maliciously caused a woman grievous bodily harm with intent to do so. A second alleges that Norman made a threat to kill the woman’s family, causing her to fear the threat would be carried out.
Both charges arise out of an alleged incident at a location off Wigton Road in Carlisle on Saturday.
At Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today, the prosecution gave a brief outline, alleging that the woman was attacked with punches and kicks, and was dragged around.
She had been taken to a hospital accident and emergency department, and found to have suffered a fractured jaw, a fractured eye socket and a broken nose.
Norman faces a third charge. This alleges harassment and putting a person in fear of violence. Norman is said, between April 1 and April 28, to have contacted the same woman 774 times via phone calls and made several threats to cause her harm.
A solicitor representing Norman during today’s hearing said the defendant denied all of the allegations.
The case was sent by a deputy district judge to Carlisle Crown Court. Norman is due to appear there for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 1.
In the meantime he has been remanded in custody after an application for bail was refused by the judge.
