An army veteran injured in Afghanistan is attempting to write his name into the record books – by pulling a vehicle further than anyone else in the world in 24 hours.
Greg Dunnings was injured in an IED blast while serving with the Coldstream Guards in 2009, and the injuries sustained have had a life-changing impact on the Kirkby Lonsdale rugby player.
Since leaving the service, Greg has become a full-time firefighter with Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and a dedicated supporter of fellow veterans, which has included various physically punishing fundraisers such as running 100 miles, rowing for 24 hours and carrying a rowing machine over the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
His next epic challenge will see him attempt to break the current Guiness World Record of pulling a vehicle the furthest distance in 24 hours. The current record stands at 32 miles.
All money raised will be split between SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, The Coldstream Guards Charity and The Fire Fighters Charity.
Greg said: “This is about pushing my limits to raise money for three organisations that have helped countless veterans and emergency workers, including me.

“It’s a brutal challenge, but I’ll keep moving one step at a time – for every brother and sister who needs support.”
The Guiness World Record attempt will take place at Carlisle Airport on Saturday, August 30, at 1pm.
The event will be open to supporters and will be streamed live and professionally recorded to meet Guinness World Records’ verification standards.
Greg is being supported by Carlisle-based Peacock Precision Services, which carried out a chartered surveyors’ report of the track free of charge to ensure the surface complied with the requirements of the car pull, and Kirkby Lonsdale Motors, which is allowing him to use a van for training and for the car pull itself.

Greg said: “I’m really grateful for the fantastic support from Peacock Precision Services and Kirkby Lonsdale Motors as I wouldn’t be able to do it without their kind donations.
“The public support will drive me on during the toughest times, and the fact that I’m doing it to raise money for fantastic causes will be all the motivation I need.”
