The Red Arrows are set to fly over Cumbria this weekend.

The RAF’s aerobatic team will travel from Blackpool, where they are performing at the town’s airshow to Edinburgh, to do a flypast at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo today, Saturday, August 9.

They are expected to fly over Cumbria today at the following times:

  • Haverthwaite: 5.47pm
  • North west of Penrith: 5.52pm
  • South west of Whitehaven: 6.30pm

The team are based at RAF Waddington and pilots fly Hawk T Mk 1 jets.

All timings are approximate and the route is subject to change due to weather or other requirements.

Last month, we spoke to Circus 1 Flight Lieutenant Greg Harley, who has flown over the Lake District multiple times, to find out what it’s really like.

Greg has been with the team since August 2023 and as the Circus junior engineer officer, he serves as flight commander for Circus and is responsible for the airworthiness of all display aircraft.

He told us what it’s like to fly across the Lake District – and what they can see when they zip through the area. Read all about it – and see Greg’s fab videos – here.
